"Have mercy on us and on the whole world." Join the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and asking God to shower his mercy upon us. While originally planned to be released closer to Divine Mercy Sunday, we have moved up our release date to encourage all people to pray that God's mercy helps to console the suffering, give peace to the anxious, wisdom to our pastors, and renew all people in their trust in the Lord: Jesus, I trust in you. "Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself." The Divine Mercy Chaplet features breathtaking footage from Martin Jernberg which helps us to experience the beauty and breadth of the world and the Catholic Church with whom and for whom we are praying. Included in the video are the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in New York and Honduras, the Sisters of Life at Times Square, the Brothers of Saint John in the Philippines, the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta and the OFMs in the Holy Land. Are friars the same as monks?

15.04.2020

Take 60 seconds for a comparison of friars vs monks. If you want to learn more about us go to ➤ capuchins.org What is a Franciscan Friar? The Franciscans are referred to as “friars,” from the Latin frater, meaning “brother.” Franciscans are essentially an order of brothers striving to live the Gospel with the same simplicity and fervor as their founder, St. Francis of Assisi. After growing up in a wealthy family and then experiencing a powerful conversion at the age of 25, Francis donned the clothes of a penitent and began to live a very poor lifestyle, dedicating himself to prayer and service of the poor. Before long, inspired by his fervent lifestyle, men began to join Francis and to imitate his way of life. This gave rise to the birth of the Franciscan Order in 1223. What is a Capuchin Franciscan? In the 16th century, a group of Franciscans were inspired to live the Franciscan lifestyle in a more radical manner, returning to the original emphasis on prayer and poverty. These men broke away from the Franciscans and began a reform movement which stressed the priority of contemplative prayer and a more rigorous austerity. Wearing habits with large hoods, they soon garnered the name cappucio, the Italian word for “hood.” The Capuchins received approval of their way of life and were recognized as an official, independent branch of the Franciscans in 1525 in the papal bull Religionis Zellus. The Power of the Hail Mary - Oct 25 - Homily - Fr Matthias

25.10.2023

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Oct 25, 2023, on the rosary in the month of the Rosary in October and specifically the power of the Hail Mary in the conversion of the Lutheran writer Johannes Jorgensen. The power of Hail Mary and devotion to Our Lady is exemplified by Johannes Jorgensen, a Danish writer born in 1866 in Lutheran Denmark, who had a unique experience with this prayer. Though raised Lutheran, Johannes discovered the Hail Mary in a Catholic book. This prayer deeply moved him, and he began to recite it fervently. Over time, he strayed from his faith, exploring various ideologies like evolutionism, liberalism, socialism, and atheism. However, by 1896, he returned to the Catholic Church. He attributed his return to the devotion he had for the Hail Mary as a child. Through Our Lady, he found God, the Church, and his true self, becoming a prolific writer for the truth. The devil often tempts us to abandon our devotion to Our Lady, falsely suggesting she's an obstacle to God. But in truth, through Our Lady, we find God, his Church, and even ourselves. Our devotion to her helps us love what she loves: God, the Church, our neighbors, and even ourselves rightly. Johannes Jorgensen - 🤍 Ave Maria! Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 22, 2023, where he emphasizes the biblical concept of valuing time, drawing on verses such as 2 Corinthians 6:2 and Matthew 12:36, and urging listeners to seize the present moment to pursue eternal life while citing the examples of saints who made the most of their time. St. Paul emphasizes the value of time, echoing the concept found in 2 Corinthians 6:2 - "Now is the day of salvation" (🤍 St. Alphonsus stresses the importance of using our limited time on Earth wisely, urging us to avoid wasting it on idleness and empty words, in line with Matthew 12:36 - "Give account on the day of judgment for every empty word spoken" (🤍 He also references the lesson from Mark 11:13-14, where Jesus curses the unfruitful fig tree, symbolizing the need to produce good works at all times (🤍 The conclusion urges us to redeem lost time, emphasizing the uncertainty of tomorrow as mentioned in James 4:14 - "Your life is a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" (🤍 Saints like St. Alphonsus and St. Maximilian Kolbe cherished each moment, consecrating their time to God and Our Lady. Whether we have been Catholic our whole lives or are just now considering the Faith, we are all on a spiritual journey toward conversion. God never intended that we journey alone, and he offers us companionship and assistance through the Saints, the Scriptures, and other means of communicating his love and his plan. Today, Br. Lawrence joins Fr. Mark-Mary in sharing five works that directed him towards converting to the Catholic Faith. From a novel he read in high school to letters he discovered in RCIA, Br. Lawrence shares how God speaks to us through different modes when we need to hear him. These encounters lead us to better understand the areas we might falter, including Eucharistic devotion, early Christian narratives, Catholic doctrine, and what it means to have a personal relationship with God. ❓ Have ideas for future videos ❓ Topics you want to hear about ❓ Questions you want answered ❓ Make sure to put #AskAscension in your comment 👍 — MORE FROM ASCENSION — 🔸Ascension’s main website: 🤍 🔸Ascension Media: 🤍 🔸The Great Adventure Bible: 🤍 — SOCIAL MEDIA — 🔸Facebook: 🤍 🔸Twitter: 🤍 🔸LinkedIn: 🤍 🔸Instagram: 🤍 🔸Subscribe: 🤍

Sins of Impurity - Sep 01 - Homily - Fr Matthias

00:10:07
01.09.2023

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 01, 2023, on how we must remain pure, and the way to ensure this is to avoid temptations and occasions of sin and to admit our weakness in prayer before God and ask for strength and so be able to see Him face to face in eternity. God calls us to holiness, not impurity. St. Paul emphasizes this contrast, noting impurity as a frequent sin that separates us from God. Our Lord, in the Beatitudes, highlights the importance of purity: Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God - 🤍 - Matthew 5:8. On this first Friday, we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus, seeking to purify our hearts like His. St. Alphonsus warns against impurity, terming it as hell's widest gate. Not the gravest sin, but the most common, leading many souls astray. This vice, deeply rooted in our nature, is so repulsive that even some demons avoid tempting souls with it. The prophet Hosea warns of its grip: They will not set their thoughts to return to their God, for the spirit of fornication is in the midst of them, and they have not known God - 🤍 - Hosea 5:4. Impurity is dangerous, leading to habits and further sins like sacrilege. St. Alphonsus speaks of the shame that prevents confession and the sacrilege of receiving communion in sin. The Apostle Paul warns of the consequences: he that eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks judgments to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord - 🤍 - 1 Corinthians 11:29. Yet, St. Alphonsus offers hope. No matter the depth of our sins, Jesus invites us: come to me all you who are burdened - 🤍 - Matthew 11:28. To overcome, avoid occasions of sin and seek the intercession of Jesus and Mary. 00:00 - Introduction 00:45 - Called to holiness, not impurity 02:03 - Impurity is hell's widest gate 03:39 - Impurity leads to habit and sacrilege 05:11 - Avoid occasions of impurity 06:26 - Do not be discouraged; call on Jesus and Mary 08:38 - With their names, the devil will flee 09:17 - Purity required to see God Ave Maria! Listen as Fr. explains the correct time to take corrective action and how doing too much will not only damage the unity of the Church but will lead to the same sin of disobedience and lack of humility that one is trying to correct in others.
