Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib temple in New Delhi, India, feeds 30,000 to 40,000 people every day for free. And during religious holidays, that number can swell to well over 100,000. To keep up with demand, the kitchen uses machines to help cook a majority of its food. We visited the temple during the birth anniversary of the 10th guru, Gobind Singh, to see how it prepares a celebratory feast in such big batches. Guru Ji on his way to the Market came across some saints who looked very weak and with the Twenty Rupees brought and distributed Langar among the poor. What better trade could there be than helping those in need and giving them food? Guru Ji tells us this is the real profit and khara sauda (good bargain). Our third Guru, Guru Amar Das Ji ordered that all who came to see him must first eat Guru Ka Langar as equals in the Sangat - Pahley Pangat, Peechay Sangat. Even the Emperor Akbar and the Raja of Haripur had to sit on the floor with commoners to eat as equals to nurture humility. ਲੰਗਰੁ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਖਟੀਐ ॥ Langar Chalai Gur Sabadh Har Thott N Aavee Khatteeai || The Langar - the Kitchen of the Guru's Shabad has been opened, and its supplies never run short. Were the poor different in the times of our Gurus? No. Today Guru Ka Langar costs much more than Twenty Rupees but still exists today. Guru continually associates Himself with the poor (the gareeb), for it is amongst the poor, Gareeb Kaa Mooh (the mouth of the poor) that is Guru Kaa Golak. We are all irrespective of caste, creed and colour, the creation of the Divine One. There is no difference. Our Gurus have shown us how we should share our earnings with the poor (Wand Chhakna) and uphold the equal worth and oneness of all human beings and truly embrace Sarbat da Bhala (well-being of the entire humanity). Let’s all try free our mind from ego and use our tongue to recite Guru Shabad and Naam to continue Guru Ka Langar for all. The sale proceeds from this track will be used to help support and provide food rations to poverty stricken families in Punjab. Wondering the secret recipe for that langar wali dal? Here's my recipe how I remember it.. Process:- * Add urad dal, chana dal, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, ginger, garlic and bay leaf to a pressure cooker. Cover and lentils turn soft (4-5 whistles) * Meanwhile, heat ghee and oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and allow to splutter. * Add ginger, garlic and green chillies, saute till fragrant. * Add onions and saute till they turn golden. भारत का सबसे लजीज और बडा रसोई घर | Golden Temple Mega Kitchen The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, meaning "abode of God" (Punjabi pronunciation: or Darbār Sahib, meaning "exalted court" is a gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the preeminent spiritual site of Sikhism The gurdwara is built around a man-made pool (sarovar) that was completed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das in 1577.Guru Arjan, the fifth Guru of Sikhism, requested Sai Mir Mian Mohammed, a Muslim Pir of Lahore, to lay its foundation stone in 1589. In 1604, Guru Arjan placed a copy of the Adi Granth in Harmandir Sahib. The Gurdwara was repeatedly rebuilt by the Sikhs after it became a target of persecution and was destroyed several times by the Mughal and invading Afghan armies. Maharaja Ranjit Singh after founding the Sikh Empire, rebuilt it in marble and copper in 1809, overlaid the sanctum with gold foil in 1830. This has led to the name the Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is spiritually the most significant shrine in Sikhism. It became a center of the Singh Sabha Movement between 1883 and 1920s, and the Punjabi Suba movement between 1947 and 1966. In the early 1980s, the Gurdwara became a center of conflict between the Indian government led by Indira Gandhi, some Sikh groups and a faithful movement led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale seeking to create a new nation named Khalistan. In 1984, Indira Gandhi sent in the Indian Army as part of Operation Blue Star, leading to deaths of over 1,000 Sikh soldiers and civilians, as well as causing much damage to the Gurdwara and the destruction of Akal Takht. The Gurdwara complex was rebuilt again after the 1984 damage. The Golden Temple is an open house of worship for all men and women, from all walks of life and faith. It has a square plan with four entrances, has a circumambulation path around the pool. The complex is a collection of buildings around the sanctum and the pool.One of these is Akal Takht, the chief center of religious authority of Sikhism.Additional buildings include a clock tower, the offices of Gurdwara Committee, a Museum and a langar – a free Sikh community run kitchen that serves a simple vegetarian meal to all visitors without discrimination.Over 100,000 people visit the holy shrine daily for worship.
