Check out my full Fjell review here: 🤍 I finally got my Fjell, and of course I had to do this at least once. This is likely as close as I can get with regard to how the legendary Taeha Fjell sounds, and it's important to remember that sound tests are highly unreliable when determining exactly how a keyboard sounds. Recording equipment, mic distance, room acoustics, typing style, and more all have a huge impact on how a keyboard sounds in a video. Not to mention, switch batch variance, lube application, and other small nuances will also further separate one keyboard from another, even if they're built exactly the same. Sound tests can be useful in other ways, but chasing sounds from a YouTube video is a hopeless endeavor. Please don't use sound tests like this to set your expectations when purchasing a keyboard or switches. Blacksimon has an excellent video on sound tests that I'll link here: 🤍 I hope this sound test can show that there certainly is a unique sound by this combination, but no sound test is ever truly replicable. Real life application will always sound different than YouTube videos, and no two boards will ever sound exactly the same even if they're built the same way. I will likely be reviewing the Fjell as a whole after I spend some more time with it, I was just excited to share something new. (Review is up!) Overall, I enjoy how this sounds. The spacebar has a nice contrast in sound to the alphas, and I decided not to include the 2 middle standoffs (so I only used the outer 4 mounting points). The feel was much more tolerable this way, it was too stiff with all the mounting points installed. In this video I'm using one piece of the Mekanisk foam on the bottom of the case, and another layer of tool shelf liner (yes, the one linked in the OG Taeha video) on top of that. A lot of the sound I found was influenced by the case foam (duh), but another small contributor was the spacebar orientation. Having it flipped, I guess the angle at which my thumb pressed it was different enough to affect the bottom out sound. Either that or ePBT is just warped and more scuffed in the other orientation. Still sounded similar to normal orientation of course, but it was subtle enough for me to notice. The main discrepancies between my Fjell and Taeha's are the keycap material, since mine are PBT instead of ABS, and I used a slightly different combination of case foam than he did for the sake of tuning case resonance. I dug around some discords and he said he only used 1 sheet of the shelf liner in his video's description, but I opted for that on top of 1 layer of Mekanisk foam. I tried to make this video to prove a point, as I explained in the first part of this description. I hope this can help people make a more informed decision. The case itself was a B-stock that my friend handed to me, and Bolsa Supply graciously donated a plate, and one of my moderators donated one of their prototype gummy o ring pcbs compatible with tofus and fjells. This board was basically a frankenstein board. But this board was the result of the generosity of the community. People are willing to donate and offer up things to support each other, and I'm grateful for all of the support that I received. The winner sent their alpacas in to build and I build it on stream. The pcb and plate combo worked better in the Fjell than in the Tofu. The sound was cleaner and it didn't have any kind of interference of the plate. I actually didn't even need to screw anything down, it was fully drop in compatible. The alpacas on FR4 is basically a tried and true great sounding combo, and throwing it on a gummy o ring mount board with a heavy brass weight was basically the best a tray mount keyboard like the fjell could sound. A Fjell is designed for tray mount but can be used with gummy o ring mount with some modifications. The standoffs are removable. This is actually one of the best implementations of JWK on FR4 that I've experienced for a 60%. Unfortunately there is a little bit of hollowness so it's not the BEST, but it is damn good. Is a Fjell worth it over a Tofu? I would recommend most people get a Tofu and just modify that and experiment with it. But if you KNOW you love the Fjell look and sound.. then it can be worth it. After spending approximately a month using the Fjell, I wanted to share my personal thoughts on the board. To put it bluntly, I like this board for what it is but I do not believe the price tag is fitting at all. I have several issues with the Fjell that I believe to be unacceptable at this price point, even though I do enjoy the sound profile it offers in a variety of switch/plate material combinations. In short, I not only enjoyed the sound profile but also appreciated that I could remove the 2 center mounting posts to add some flexibility; having the center posts installed was certainly too stiff for me to type on, and those will permanently remain outside of my Fjell. Aesthetically, the Fjell looks nice and clean, and the internal brass weight is good not only for giving this thing some heft but also dampening the resonance of the alphas when typing. I avoided using foam because it deadened the board a bit too much for my personal taste. The negatives I had to list consisted of a gaping USB port, Philips head screws that will inevitably strip over time, the expected downside of being a tray mount, and most of all the price for this board. I enjoy my Fjell, but I can almost guarantee you that there are more innovative options out there that may better suit your needs, for a fraction of the cost. I personally recommend considering other options unless you are dead set on acquiring a Fjell. It is a very nice tray mount, but at this price point there are certainly some quality of life changes I would greatly appreciate and that would make me consider this board more worth it. This was an attempt of recreating Taeha's Fjell Holy panda on brass BUT, on a budget. After watching tempest's brass dampener mod, I had the brightest but stupidest idea to use a steel sheet in replacement for brass. With my shitty craftmanship I was able to make a whole steel plate which didn't fit because it was too thick. So I just cut and fitted a smaller steel weight in the empty cavity of the case which worked phenomenaly. This board was such a pain in the booty to make but it was all worth it in the end. Deadass like... my microphone decided to die and I literally had nothing else to record on but my camera. My mic jack on my camera is also bugging out so the best I could do is record off the interneal body mic. Oh well... The Fjell R6 was the first premium custom keyboard I’ve ever owned, and my third custom keyboard. It’s good, but I’ve found better since. Full analysis below. It was the first premium custom keyboard I managed to grab, as I was totally lost with the whole group buy, pre-order system. And everything I was looking at to acquire had literally closed their newest round in the last weeks. So when I saw the Fjell available in a Japanese shop, I snagged it immediately (and yes I had to use forwarding services for that matter), paying an in-stock premium. Is the Fjell worth the total price I paid to get it? Not at all, but if you managed to get a group buy price (which I recall was around 320), I’d say yes it is. Although with the rise of affordable quality 60s custom keyboards, it will be harder to justify that price point for a future round. I love the ultra hot colorway, it looks so good holding it in hand. And matches perfectly with GMK Laser and this edgy design.Initially this was going to be my premium fps gaming keyboard (I look for niche categories to get excuses to buy keyboards for each). It works fine, but for me the keyboard is way too heavy for someone like me who likes to adjust his keyboard’s position from time to time. So right now this is just in my “end game” 60% category until I get my hands on a Unikorn haha. I do like how the vintage blacks sound on the board. Subtle ringing wet tones, and a buttery smooth feeling. The only thing I’m not enjoying is the spacebar. You have no idea how much time I spent on it. I never was able to pinpoint the cause (tried several stabs, switches and spacebars). But for some reason there is a slight rattle if I press too much to the right side and the sound is dulled and doesn’t match the subtleness of the alphas. Using an MX Black switch “Ultraglide” is the best compromise I found in terms of sound and feel. I disagree with people saying it’s a glorified Tofu60. I own both and I can tell you, I see a difference, one I’m ready to pay for (if it was a group buy price). This build is meant to evolve. I think my vintages are underutilized here, and I think I will swap them out for Holy Pandas to see how that famous combo looks and sounds in real life. Wonder what you guys think of this build? Sverd i fjell (English: Swords in Rock) is a commemorative monument located in the Hafrsfjord neighborhood of Madla, a borough of the city of Stavanger in Rogaland, Norway. The monument was created by sculptor Fritz Røed from Bryne and was unveiled by King Olav V of Norway in 1983. The three bronze swords stand 10 metres (33 ft) tall and are planted into the rock of a small hill next to the fjord. They commemorate the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord which by tradition took place there in the year 872, when King Harald Fairhair gathered all of Norway under one crown. The largest sword represents the victorious Harald, and the two smaller swords represent the defeated petty kings. The monument also represents peace, since the swords are planted into solid rock, so they may never be removed.
