Tanzania is implementing several projects in its capital city dodoma. When all this projects are finished surely dodoma will rank among top cities of East Africa. Dodoma is The town situated in the nation's center, 453 kilometers (281 mi) west of Dar es Salaam, the previous capital, and 441 kilometers (274 mi) south of Arusha, the East African Community's headquarters. Through Mtera, it is located 259 kilometers (161 miles) north of Iringa. Moreover, it is located 160 miles (260 kilometers) west of Morogoro. Sixty-five square kilometers, or 241 square miles, of its 2,669 square kilometers (1,031 sq mi) are urbanized. Dodoma, the third-largest city and regional capital of Tanzania, is also the country's capital. The city is situated 1,135 meters above sea level and has a total area of 2,669 km2. It is situated between the following latitude and longitude: 6° 10'19" S and 35° 44'29" E. The word "Idodomya," which in the Chigogo language means "has sunk," is the origin of the name of the city. According to legend, it refers to an elephant that got stuck in the mud while trying to cross a nearby small river to drink water. As it struggled endlessly to free itself, it eventually began to gradually sink until it vanished, and the villagers, who were in awe of what they saw, exclaimed "idodomya!" From that point on, the area became known as Idodomya, the location where the elephant "sank," and is as a result still mentioned in history. The office of the President of Tanzania and the headquarters of ministers of the Government of Tanzania completed the move to the Mtumba area of the city in October 2019.
